The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the International Union of Superiors General has the 8. established in February as annual day of prayer and awareness against human trafficking. Of the 8. February is the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita, abducted as a child and sold as a slave in Sudan and Italy. Bakhita served her last owner as a nanny. 1888 or 1889 was his daughter then in the care of Canossianerinnen given in Venice. This has brought them from their fate and liberated Josephine. She later decided to stay with the Canossians, became a nun and dedicated her life to pointing out the fate of the slaves. It was in the year 2000 declared a saint.
As many members of the Salvatorian Family committed to combating human trafficking and forms of modern slavery worldwide, has the General Committee of Lay Salvatorians decided, Support for this idea and declare the day a common day of prayer. All units are invited, on this day to raise awareness of a common prayer to the forms of modern slavery and to also call other people aware.

Of course, it cannot stop at prayer alone, that is why all those responsible for the units are particularly called upon on this day, to associate with others in the communities, to draw attention to this worldwide crime and to develop counter-strategies. Because it is not uncommon for the crime of modern slavery to take place right next door in the neighborhood. The following short videos should also point this out.
